Free Hosting FAQ: Straight Answers to Common Questions
Straight answers to the questions people ask most about Kerit Cloud's free hosting — limits, uptime, the catch, data, security, upgrades and what isn't allowed.
On this page
Free hosting has a bad reputation, and people understandably arrive with questions. Here are straight answers to the ones we hear most, grouped by topic. If yours isn’t here, ask in the Kerit Cloud Discord.
The basics
Is it really free?
Yes. The free plan costs nothing, needs no credit card, has no trial timer and doesn’t expire. It isn’t a demo: it’s a small but real server on the same AMD EPYC hardware and NVMe storage as paid plans.
What’s the catch?
There isn’t a hidden one. The free tier is how most of our paying customers first found us. You get a small server; we get the chance to earn your business if your bot grows enough to need a bigger plan. There are no ads injected into your bot, and you keep full ownership of your code and data.
What exactly do I get?
- 256 MB of RAM
- 30% of an AMD EPYC core
- 2 GB of NVMe storage
- A 10 Gbps network, hosted in Virginia (US East)
- Under 18 ms WebSocket latency to Discord, under 40 ms to the Telegram API
- A shared MySQL database
- Layer 7 DDoS protection
- No sleep mode, with automatic restarts
The details of each limit are in free tier limits explained.
How do I sign up?
Join the Kerit Cloud Discord, register on the panel using the link shared there, create a server on the Free plan, upload your code and press Start. It takes about three minutes — see how to claim your free server.
What you can run
Which languages are supported?
Node.js (16–22), Python (3.9–3.12), Java (11, 17, 21), Go, Bun and Deno. If it runs on Linux, it very likely runs here.
Is it only for Discord bots?
No. Discord bots are the most common use, but Telegram bots, small APIs and other long-running services work too. See free hosting for Telegram bots and deploying Go, Bun and Deno apps.
Will my bot fit in 256 MB?
Most single-purpose bots will. Measured examples: a discord.js moderation bot in about 10 servers uses ~95 MB, a discord.py utility bot ~110 MB, an aiogram Telegram bot ~70 MB, and a Node.js economy bot with MySQL ~140 MB. Music bots (300 MB+) don’t fit. What fits in 256 MB shows how to keep usage low.
Can I run a music bot for free?
Not comfortably. Audio processing needs more memory and CPU than the free plan provides. Run the bot on a paid plan and the audio on a Lavalink node — see running a music bot.
Uptime and reliability
Does my free bot really run 24/7?
Yes. There’s no sleep mode on any Kerit plan, free included. Your process runs continuously, and a watchdog restarts it within seconds if it crashes. See free hosting without sleep mode.
Is there an uptime guarantee on the free plan?
The free plan runs on the same infrastructure as paid plans, but it’s provided on a best-effort basis and isn’t covered by SLA service credits. Financial SLA credits apply to paid plans. If people depend on your bot, that’s a good reason to upgrade.
Why Virginia?
Discord’s primary gateway infrastructure is in US East. Hosting in Virginia gives your bot 15–20 ms WebSocket latency, compared with 80–200 ms from other regions, so commands feel faster. See why Discord bot latency matters.
Your data
Are my files kept when the bot restarts?
Yes. Storage is persistent NVMe. Files, SQLite databases and session files survive restarts and redeploys.
Are there backups?
Not on the free plan. Export your database and download important files yourself from time to time. Paid plans include automatic backups.
Will my free server ever be deleted?
Active servers stay forever. We only reclaim servers that have been stopped and untouched for an extended period, and we warn you on Discord first. See the reclaim policy.
Security
Is my bot token safe?
Environment variables are stored encrypted and never printed in logs, and each bot runs in an isolated container, so other users can’t read your files or environment. Your part is to keep the token out of your code and repository — see keeping your bot token safe.
Is my free bot protected from DDoS attacks?
Yes. Layer 7 DDoS protection is always on for every plan, including free. See is your free bot protected from DDoS attacks?.
Rules
What’s not allowed?
The same rules apply to free and paid plans. You can’t use Kerit Cloud for illegal or harmful activity (malware, phishing, spam, botnet control), unauthorised crypto mining, attacks on other networks (DDoS, port scanning, exploitation), or hosting pirated or unauthorised adult content. Violations lead to suspension. You should also follow Discord’s and Telegram’s developer policies.
Can I create several free servers?
Use one free server for one project. If you need more resources or several services, a paid plan is the right fit.
Upgrading
How do I upgrade?
One click in the panel. Your server resizes in place — files, database and environment variables all stay. Billing is prorated.
What does the first paid plan cost?
For Discord bots, Basic is $0.67/month (512 MB RAM, 75% CPU, 5 GB NVMe, 2 backups). For Telegram bots, Starter is ₹99/month (1 GB RAM, a full core, 5 GB NVMe, MySQL, git deploy, daily backups).
What if I upgrade and change my mind?
Every paid plan has a 3-day money-back guarantee.
Which payment methods are accepted?
UPI, PayPal, cryptocurrency and major credit and debit cards.
Support
How do I get help?
Ask in the Kerit Cloud Discord, where the team and community help with the panel, deployments and hosting issues. Standard support covers the platform — servers, the panel and connectivity. Debugging your bot’s own code is outside the standard support scope, though the community is often happy to point you in the right direction. How to write a support ticket that gets solved fast helps you get answers quickly.
Summary
The free plan is genuinely free — no card, no timer, no ads — and runs your bot 24/7 on 256 MB of RAM, 30% of an EPYC core and 2 GB of persistent NVMe, with DDoS protection and a MySQL database. It’s best-effort rather than SLA-backed, doesn’t include backups, and suits most single-purpose bots. When you need more, upgrading is one click and keeps everything in place.
